Effect of number of elements (H2M case)

Hi All,
I am checking the effect of number of elements on the simulation time. The geometry of soil column: width=0.1 m & Height = 1.0 m. Machine configuration= HP Z840 Workstation, Intel ® Xeon ® CPU E5-2623 V4 2.60 GHz (RAM 16GB)

Type Nodes Element Simulation Time for one day

H2 (Elastic) H2M (Elastic)
TRI 59 76 330 sec 420 sec
63 80 327 433

QUAD 102 50 335 526
1002 500 9768

For QUAD element, I also want to check for 500, & 5000 elements. But, time consumption (for 500 elements) is too high (9768 sec). It will increase exponentially with the increase of elements number. Height =1.0 m, element # =500, unit height = 1.0/500=0.002. For H2M case, when requested output for left line, it is calculating along the height, every unit height location. Is there any way to take output at 0.2 unit height interval than 0.002? I attached out put files. POINT is one solution.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Mohammad

Hi,

I suggest you check which part, e.g. linear solve or nolinear solve, needs the long calculation time for the QUAD case. If linear solve is the one, you can try with another linear solver setting or with another linear solver library.

Regarding the output issue, unfortunately there is no way to change the interval. At the moment, a user has to do it in post-process. Maybe you can easily do it with Line filter in ParaView.

Dear Nori,

Thank you for your advise. I will check with solver issue.
