Calculation of errors in adaptive time stepping

Hello everyone,

I am new to OGS5 and using it for simulating a geothermal doublet in my Master`s thesis. I want to use the time control method “PI_AUTO_STEP_SIZE”. Where can I find a more detailed explanation than in the keyword documentation on how the absolute and relative errors are calculated.
I would be glad about any help! Thank you
