Open boundary condition

Dear All,

Does anybody has experience of open boundary conditions using OGS? I have a mass transport and multi-phase flow coupled model in which component should be able to flow out of the domain cross a boundary with liquid. Can OGS deal with such kind of boundary condition?

Best regards

Wenjie

Dear Wenjie,

boundaries for which no boundary conditions are assigend are open to advective mass fluxes.

Best, Christof

Hello Wenjie,

I just saw your post from 2014. I was wondering if you got to solve this issue about open boundary conditions. I am trying to do the same. Do you already know how to do that?

Thanks,

Jhonny

Hi Wenkui,

I was just recently testing a similar condition - enclosed is a picture, where some concentration (bottom of left side) is set to a 1st type BC and getting into the domain with the flow. On top of that, flow is pointing outwards of the domain and the mass BC is deactivated; there, concentration is leaving the domain. Is this, what you are looking for?

Cheers,
Marc

Hallo Jhonny,

I still don’t know how to do that.

Dear Jhonny and Wenjie,

I proposed a solution back then to Wenji, but I don't know if that is what, you need (below my answer back then and enclosed a picture).

Let me know, if you need any assistance in this.

Cheers,
Marc

Dear Wenjie,

I am sorry, that I mistook you for Wenkui... the names are too similar
for me. Anyway, you are still invited for a chat in my office - but it
would probably take you a long time to come to Leipzig
Hope, you got your things working. If you still need help, feel free to
send me an example setup of yours and I can take a look.

Cheers,
Marc

You don't need to define anything for mass transport at your outflow
boundary. It's that simple.

I'm in my office, if you want to chat...

Dear Marc,

Could you please provide me an example to show how to define the Open
BC? I tried by my own model, but it doesn't work.
